SMSHE offers educational meetings and events from October through June each year. Our educational meetings are designed to provide to our members and guests information regarding regulatory compliance and new technology designed for healthcare facilities. Lunch is provided at the meetings by SMSHE, or the presenter. Our meetings are typically held at the Engineering Society of Detroit in Southfield, or Glen Oaks Country Club in Farmington Hills.

Other events provided by SMSHE are our Vegas Night, holiday luncheon and networking event, SMSHE Schmooze (in conjunction with the AIA Healthcare conference), and our annual golf outing.

About this event

Presentation Synopsis:

As energy efficiency and optimization efforts progress, organizations find it increasingly challenging to manage the wide range of energy efficiency opportunities and continuously improve energy management over a long-term life cycle. Without a formal plan, facility managers and energy managers can be overwhelmed by their day-to-day responsibilities, organizational energy saving targets, project management obligations, equipment and system maintenance, and emerging technologies.

To address these challenges, Strategic Energy Management (SEM) provides a holistic long-term approach that guides customers to manage energy use with focus on business practice change and commitment from executive management, facility management, and facility staff to reduce energy waste and improve energy intensity.

At its foundation, SEM promotes commitment, planning, energy management education, measurement of energy performance, and continues improvement. SEM equips and enables facility management and staff to impact consumption through operational and behavioral change.

In this presentation, Mr. Feras Karim will introduce the audience to the concept of SEM with a focus on customer/end-user benefits. The presentation will cover the following:

  • What is SEM?
  • How SEM works
  • Is SEM the right program for you?
  • SEM program benefits
